Pathways to Counselling with Simon

Simon provides counselling to those who wish to pay privately, or to those who are eligible for a rebate from Medicare through the Better Access to Mental Health Care initiative, which allows people to access a rebate from Medicare if they have a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP).

Simon charges on a sliding scale based on income and circumstance. His rates are listed below:

Simon’s Rates:

Service Rate
Individual Counselling $250 per 50 minutes
(after $141.85 rebate from Medicare, this leaves $108.15 out of pocket expense)
Assessments:
The first session of any assessment is a standard psychology consultation.

ADHD assessment
If the decision is made to go ahead with the assessment:
$2500 for 4-5 hours of f2f psychometric testing, which can be done over one long session or two shorter sessions.
Typically, the tests administered are the WAIS-IV (ages 16+) or WISC-V (child under 16), WIAT-III and a MOXO d-CPT. The price includes a 50 min feedback session (f2f or online) and a complete testing report (usually around 10 pages). Not included in the price are CAARS questionnaires (for adults; $25 each) or CBRS questionnaires (for children under 18; $15 each). Usually, two to four of these questionnaires are required per assessment (a self-report questionnaire and one to three observer report questionnaires).

I can also do a discounted assessment of $1500 instead of $2500 if a brief, single page diagnosis letter is all that is required rather than a comprehensive testing report. It is important to note that for those seeking ADHD medication, prescriptions can only be provided by a psychiatrist. Some psychiatrists may not accept an ADHD diagnosis from another health professional without doing their own form of assessment.
Autism assessment
If the decision is made to go ahead with the assessment:
$2500 for a 1-1.5 hour f2f ADOS-2 assessment.
The price includes a 50 min feedback session (f2f or online) and a complete testing report (usually around 8 pages). I can also do a discounted assessment of $1500 instead of $2500 if a brief, single page diagnosis letter is all that is required rather than a comprehensive testing report.

ADHD + Autism combined assessment
If the decision is made to go ahead with the assessment:
$4000 for 5-6 hours of f2f psychometric testing, which can be done over one long session or two to three shorter sessions.
Typically, the tests administered for ADHD are the WAIS-IV (ages 16+) or WISC-V (child under 16), WIAT-III and a MOXO d-CPT. The test administered for autism is the ADOS-2. The price includes a 50 min feedback session (f2f or online) and a complete testing report (usually around 12 pages). Not included in the price are CAARS questionnaires (for adults; $25 each) or CBRS questionnaires (for children under 18; $15 each). Usually, two to four of these questionnaires are required per assessment (a self-report questionnaire and one to three observer report questionnaires).

I can also do a discounted assessment of $3000 instead of $4000 if a brief, single page diagnosis letter is all that is required rather than a comprehensive testing report. It is important to note that for those seeking ADHD medication, prescriptions can only be provided by a psychiatrist. Some psychiatrists may not accept an ADHD diagnosis from another health professional without doing their own form of assessment.

If you are not eligible for a MHCP, or have used all the sessions in your MHCP for this calendar year, you can see Simon for private counselling. For private counselling, Simon’s rates are as above but excluding the Medicare rebate.

If you are seeing Simon for private counselling and you have private health insurance, you may be able to receive a rebate from your private health insurer. However, this will depend on your insurance provider and your level of cover. If you would like to find out whether you may be able to get money back from your health insurance for seeing Simon, you should contact your insurer directly. Please note that most insurers will not provide a rebate for counselling if you are also getting a rebate from Medicare with a MHCP.
